1. The spirit of it
Taught recordings teach robots how people really do everyday things. A great recording shows your hands and the task, clearly, from start to finish, done the way you normally do it. It shows nothing — and no one — that doesn't belong in a dataset licensed to robotics companies.
2. Make a good recording
- Follow the Lesson's instructions: the task, the length, the mount and whether to narrate.
- Keep your hands and the workspace in frame, and the camera steady.
- Complete the whole workflow, start to finish.
- Narrate only when the Lesson asks, and speak only for yourself.
- Record only where you're allowed to, and only when it's safe.
3. Never record
People who haven't agreed to appear. You should normally be the only person in a recording. Any other adult must live in or have been invited into the place you're recording, know you're recording for Taught, and complete Taught's participant consent before you record. If someone walks into frame who hasn't agreed, stop and re-record.
Children. No one under 18 may appear in or be heard in a recording — not even briefly or in the background.
Private conversations. Don't record anyone else talking unless they have agreed to be recorded. Some states make it a crime to record a conversation without every participant's consent.
Personal or sensitive information. Keep out of frame: identity documents, mail, bank cards and financial documents, medical records or prescriptions, and screens showing messages, accounts or other personal information. Don't show house numbers, addresses, license plates or anything else that reveals where you live.
Health information. Don't record medical care, medication, health conditions or anything that reveals someone's health.
Nudity and sexual content. No nudity, partial nudity, sexual content or intimate situations of any kind.
Other people's confidential information. At work, record only with your employer's permission, and never show confidential, proprietary or customer information.
Copyrighted media. Turn off music, TV and videos before recording. Don't feature artwork, logos or branded content as the subject of a recording.
Dangerous or illegal activity. No weapons, drugs, illegal acts, animal cruelty, or tasks that put you or anyone else at risk. Never record while driving.
Fake, staged or recycled recordings. Record everything live, in the App. No re-uploads, screen recordings, footage made by someone else, edited or AI-generated content, or performances designed to mislead reviewers.
Harassment or hate. Nothing that demeans, threatens or targets any person or group.
4. If something slips into a recording
If you notice after recording that a recording includes something above, don't submit it — record the Lesson again. If you've already submitted it, tell us at support@taught.life and we'll remove it from licensing. Honest mistakes you tell us about are not held against you.
5. What happens when a recording breaks the rules
- Review. A person reviews every recording. Recordings that break these guidelines are declined, or we may ask you to record again.
- Serious or repeated violations — such as recording someone without consent, including a minor, or submitting fake recordings — may lead to suspension or closure of your account, voiding of Gold obtained through the violation, and removal of affected recordings from licensing.
- Illegal content. We report child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and cooperate with law enforcement as the law requires.
If you believe we made a mistake about your account, contact support@taught.life and a person will look at it.
6. Report a problem
If you appear in a Taught recording and didn't agree to it, if a recording contains intimate imagery of you, or if you see anything else that breaks these guidelines, email privacy@taught.life. We will act promptly — and, for intimate imagery, within 48 hours of a valid request — to remove the recording from licensing and, where we can, from customers' datasets. For copyright complaints, see our Copyright Policy.
